Tax Season Explained: TGC Makes It Simple

Tax season doesn’t have to be a mystery. 🧾 Here’s what you need to know to file on time and avoid penalties:

✔️ What’s an Auto-Assessment?
SARS uses third-party data (from your employer, bank, medical aid, etc.) to automatically pre-fill and issue your return. If you’re auto-assessed, you must log in to eFiling to review, accept, or correct it. If you don’t respond, SARS may finalise your return as-is — which could lead to errors or penalties.

✔️ Who Must File?
If you earn more than R500,000/year, have multiple income sources, claim deductions (e.g. medical, retirement), or are a provisional taxpayer — you must file manually, even if you’re auto-assessed.

✔️ Which Deadlines Apply to You?
📅 7–20 July: Auto-Assessments
📅 21 July – 20 Oct: Non-Provisional Taxpayers
📅 21 July – 19 Jan: Provisional Taxpayers

✔️ How to Avoid Penalties
• Log into eFiling early and check your return
• Make sure all income and deductions are captured
• Don’t assume SARS got it right — verify everything
• Submit before your deadline to avoid admin penalties and interest
